BRIGHT KY in Ashland

By: Dustin Burchett, BRIGHT Kentucky Class of 2022

Within one session, being part of the BRIGHT Leadership Program has already exceeded my expectations.  Being the representative from Greenup County, I already had previous experiences with some of the locations we visited.  But to get to see our region through the eyes of my fellow classmates was humbling.  It made me appreciate all the efforts being made to better our community even more.  The lectures were excellent with invaluable information and resources.  Our speakers were all passionate and eager to engage our class which led to interesting discussions.  The relationship with my fellow classmates was my favorite part of this entire session.  It didn’t take long at all for all of us to transition from being peers to friends.  This program and its design made it easy for this to occur by promoting communication and team building.  I personally cannot wait for our next session and look forward to growing professionally along with my classmates.  The BRIGHT program is truly a gift to the Appalachian Region, and it is an absolute honor to be part of this.
