Elevate in Campton: Highlights

The Elevate Kentucky class met again for its second session in Campton on April 10-11. The session theme was “Lead your state.” The goal of the session was to provide these emerging leaders with tools and information to better collaborate and lead amongst their peers and in their companies.

Our session began with a presentation from Greg Coker, author and founder of The Cathedral Institute. He led his well-known “soft-skills boot camp” and taught the importance of caring, knowing and acknowledging co-workers and bosses on a personal level and being genuine and intentional in our relationships.
After hearing Greg, the group traveled to Natural Bridge and rode the Sky Lift to the top! With time to explore and enjoy the beautiful weather, the group had the opportunity to hike back down or network with new friends.
The dinner keynote speaker was Dr. Michael Benson, President of Eastern Kentucky University. Dr. Benson was a captivating speaker and discussed the importance of education in Kentucky, strategic, optimism, failure and the will to prepare and work. His 10 fundamentals provided great insight for our Elevate class!
We ended the day around a campfire with s’mores!

Day two began with a presentation from Sylvia Lovely, author of “Juggling Coconuts: Time Management in the 21st Century.” She expressed the importance of balancing obligations and enjoyable activities. Next, Rusty Justice of BitSource, talked about the benefits that technology bring to Eastern Kentucky and how it acts as a leveler for his region.

Finally, we ended the day with Miguel’s pizza while John May of Licking Valley Rural Electric and Wolfe Co. Search and Rescue volunteer emphasized the importance of volunteering in our communities.

The Elevate class will meet one last time in Louisville on May 10-11 for the “Improve Your State” session. Stay tuned for updates and enjoy this highlight video of our time in Campton!
